Now that the holiday season is upon us, it’s easy to get out of your health and fitness routine. Here are some tips to help keep you on track:
Schedule your workout on your calendar. You wouldn’t dream of missing a doctor’s appointment, would you? Schedule an hour each day for a fitness class, cardio workout or game of tennis and stick to it.
Try something out of your routine. If you’re not able to stick to your regular routine, take advantage of trying something new. Miss that 6 am spinning class? Try an 8 am yoga instead.
Stay away from the buffet table! Browse the entire buffet table before selecting what you’re going to eat. Then, put your food selections on your plate and walk away! Remember what’s important at the holidays – your friends and family, not the food (except maybe Aunt Jean’s mac and cheese!).
Buy fitness related gifts. Visit sporting good stores and pro shops to look for fitness items for your loved ones (and grab a few good deals for yourself). Make plans to use them together after the holidays. Or, purchase a personal training gift certificate for that hard-to-buy for spouse or parent.
Socialize and stay fit. Of course, you want to visit with friends and family over the holidays. This year combine your visit with a fitness activity. Introduce a new tradition – a family tennis match or tournament. Or, get a guest pass and introduce your old friend to Zumba!
Skip the plow. Shovel your own driveway and sidewalks this year. You’ll save money AND burn calories.
Sign up for holiday fitness events. Add a race to your holiday plans! Sign up for the Frosty 5 Miler or Mistletoe Mile on Christmas Eve morning in Hudson or the annual New Year’s Eve Race in Stow. It will get you in the holiday spirit. and it’s good for your health in every season.
