It’s still the beginning of the USTA summer league season and for many players now is a good time to think about restringing. Many players who aren’t string breakers are playing with too loose or dead strings and don’t even realize it! The two questions I hear most often about strings are how often should I restring my racquet and what string should I use?
How Often?
The benchmark that is commonly held is you should restring your racquet as many times a year as you play weekly. So if you play in a PCT on Mondays, drill on Wednesdays, and play a pick-up match on Saturdays you should be restringing your racquet about 3 times a year or every 4 or so months.
What String?
At WRRFC we categorize our strings into 4 types: Economy, Multifilament, Polyester, and Playability. All strings are priced with labor included.
Economy
Economy strings are our most inexpensive strings at a $25 price point. They do not offer many added benefits. Our economy strings are: Price Lightning XX, Price Synthetic Gut with Duraflex, Wilson SGX, and Babolat Duralast.
Multifilament
Multifilament strings are a step up from our economy strings. They are priced at $30. They offer a softer string bed than our economy strings. Our multifilament strings are: Head FXP, Prince Perfection, Wilson Shock Shield, and Wilson Sensation.
Polyester
Polyester strings are our most durable strings. They are priced at $35. These are the strings frequent string breakers should be using. These are also the strings recommended for players using Wilson SpinEffect racquets. Our polyester strings are: Babolat RPM, Babolat Hurricane, Head Hawk, Luxilon Savage, Luxilon 4G, Prince Tour, Technifibre Black Code, and Technifibre Razor Code.
Playability
Playability strings are softest and offer the most feel. They are our highest price point at $38. They are perfect for players who demand feel on the ball or need a softer string bed for those with elbow or joint pain. Our playability strings are: Babolat Xcel, Gamma Professional, Head FXP Tour, Prince Premier, Wilson NXT, and Wilson NXT Tour.
