GetFit update – week 2: Healthy choices and challenging workouts!

Our club member, Laura, continues her weekly blog about  her experience participating in GetFit.  Everyone in the program continues to be engaged and participating at a high level.  Together, we can all reach our goals!

“Week two is over, which means we are 25% of the way through our GetFit program. I’m still feeling very motivated, and I hope this feeling continues throughout all 8 weeks!

At the beginning of the week I was feeling a little frustrated because I felt like I had just gotten into the Spinning groove, and I wanted to continue only going to Spinning classes instead of mixing it up with the treadmill workout. But I was glad I tried the treadmill workout! I had never raised the incline above 3 or 4 before, so I was surprised how challenging it was. I was sweating up a storm, but the 20 minutes flew by quickly and I was motivated enough to add a few minutes of warm up and cool down.

I was very happy when Nikki included part of the strength training into her Power Pump class. She said she will include the assigned strength workouts for the remaining six weeks into Power Pump and then we just have to do the few machines before or after class. Power Pump is another class I like to fit into my schedule so I didn’t want to cut it out.

I made several healthy meals again this week, including another pepper and onion sauté! I had a little slip up during the week when I met a friend for lunch at Panera. Without thinking, I ordered a chocolate chip cookie. Oops! I really don’t use sugar in my cooking at home, but eating out is always more challenging. I found this interesting video on how sugar affects the brain: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lEXBxijQREo . I highly recommend watching it.

My meals for the week ended on a great note when I went to the Countryside Conservancy winter farmer’s market at Old Trail School Saturday. I picked up some veggies and fresh local meat and eggs. There were lots of awesome booths. I will definitely be going back again!

In the last post I thought we had to weigh in every week, but I found out we only weigh in at the beginning and end. As of right now I have lost another two pounds! I’m almost halfway to my goal of losing ten pounds… and I’m thinking maybe I can even surpass my goal?!

Week 3, here we go!”
