Myth Buster – Spot Reducing

Myth Buster: Spot Reducing

Wanting to trim a little fat from your midsection is a common goal for many gym goers. Lots of people think more sit-ups will equal less fat covering their abs. Unfortunately, that is not the way the body works; fat distribution is largely genetic and gender plays a role as well. How much muscle is in one area does not determine how much or little body fat exists there. This myth was busted with professional tennis players, whose serving arms have substantial more muscle mass than their off arm but, when tested, show the exact same amount of fat on each arm. Does that mean you should skip your core workout? Absolutely not. Core strength is a major component of fitness. But don’t waste all your time on crunches expecting a flatter stomach. Instead, try calorie burning interval workouts with full body movements like Squat & Press or Burpees to get rid of body fat everywhere.
